Becton, Founder of BHR
Neisha
Becton has worked in the mental healthcare field as a clinician and
administrator since completing her undergraduate and graduate programs
at Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, California in 1992.
Since forming Becton Healthcare Resources (BHR) in 1999, Neisha has
played an important role in developing mental health programs for Alameda
County and for regional providers of community mental health services.
“I formed BHR to respond to the specific needs in Alameda County
for professional management services to assist in the delivery of healthcare
to the seriously and persistently mentally ill of this area,”
Becton says. “The continuing mission of BHR is to provide its
client organizations with innovative systems to enhance quality client
care, to help quickly identify needs and to more efficiently utilize
client resources”.
While completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees Becton began
her professional career as a counselor for Community Living Centers,
Inc. (CLC) and later became a Client Program Coordinator providing direct
patient care to severely mentally ill adults. Becton also worked for
Youth and Family Services as a counselor providing services to mentally
ill and abused children and adolescents. After completing her graduate
degree in counseling psychology, Becton worked as a Program Director
in southern California for Social Vocational Services, a leading provider
of services for people with developmental disabilities. Becton oversaw
operations covering Redondo Beach to Culver City areas, as well as worked
closely with Harbor and Westside Regional Centers.
In 1992 she was hired as a Program Director by Psychiatric Management
Resources (PMR), based in San Diego and one of the country's largest
providers of programs and services for individuals with serious and
persistent mental illnesses. Becton was promoted to Operations Director,
then became Regional Marketing Director and was named Regional Vice
President of Operations in 1996 with multi-state responsibilities throughout
California, Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Washington, Michigan and Hawaii.
At PMR Becton worked across a broad spectrum of the mental health industry,
opening new facilities, initiating business efficiency and quality improvement
programs, recruiting and orienting physicians and managing the company's
county and community business relationships within her region. As regional
vice president she was responsible for the overall growth, management
and quality of care for all partial hospitalization and outpatient clinic
programs, in partnership with hospitals and community mental health
agencies.
Mrs. Becton left the company in 1999 to become founder of BHR. Since
then BHR has formed partnerships with medical providers in Alameda and
Contra Costa counties, Long Beach and Detroit.
She is a nationally recognized leader in her field and has received
numerous awards, including Outstanding African-American Entrepreneur
Award and the Community Service Award from the Alameda County Mental
Health Board, Outstanding Leadership Award, National Leadership Award,
Business Women of the Year Award and New Center Community Mental Health
Services Community Service Award. Neisha continues to work closely with
NAMI and supports the Tri-Valley NAMI chapter as well as allows this
chapter to hold their monthly meetings in BHR's corporate office every
month.
Neisha Becton is committed to continuing to provide superior services
to people suffering from a mental illness. She is dedicated to elevating
mental health awareness and advocating for this under-served population
at a more national level.
